Below is the portion of the July 28 CMS school board meeting that deals with a presentation on an initial report on visits by officials of the National Institute for Magnet School Leadership this spring. The PDF of the initial report is here. A fuller report is due in September.
The intial report is chock full of critiques mostly focused on inattention to diversity and unequal access to programs by families across the district. There seems to be scant attention in the initial report to the substantive value of the magnet programs.
And one other caveat: Supt. Ann Clark said the district had not received support from this group in a previous grant request, and was hoping that by engaging the group in this study, that financial support for CMS’s magnet program might ensue.
